Bengaluru Metro's Purple Line Hit by Technical Glitch During Peak Hours, Commuters Stranded

Bengaluru's Namma Metro services on the Purple Line faced a major disruption on Tuesday evening after a train developed a technical glitch at the Cubbon Park metro station. The incident occurred at 6:32 pm, during peak commuter hours, leaving many passengers stranded.

The Namma Metro network serves approximately 9 to 10 lakh riders daily, with the Purple Line alone handling 4.50 lakh commuters each day. Tuesday's disruption is considered one of the most significant in recent years.

Operations and maintenance teams from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) arrived at the site promptly and were seen working to resolve the issue. The BMRCL has not yet provided an official statement on the cause of the glitch or the time required for full restoration of services.

Commuters on the Purple Line experienced delays and overcrowding as trains were either halted or running on a single track. Many took to social media to express their frustration, with some reporting being stuck inside trains for over 30 minutes.

The BMRCL has a track record of managing technical issues efficiently, but Tuesday's breakdown highlighted the vulnerability of the city's metro system during peak hours. Officials have assured that a detailed investigation will be conducted to prevent future occurrences.

As of now, partial services have been restored on the Purple Line, but commuters are advised to check for updates before travelling. The BMRCL is expected to release a full statement later today.
