Bengaluru Couple's Death Linked to Medical Debt, Police Say
An elderly couple was found dead at their residence in Manjunath Nagar, Bengaluru, on the night of July 22, in an apparent case of suicide. Police suspect that mounting medical expenses may have driven them to take this step.
The deceased were identified as Eshwar Achari, 73, and his wife Gowri, 66. According to police, Gowri had been bedridden due to a prolonged illness, and the couple's two daughters were bearing the cost of her treatment. The couple reportedly felt distressed over the financial burden this placed on their children.
The incident came to light when one of their daughters called repeatedly the next morning and, receiving no response, visited the house to find them dead. The Basaveshwaranagar police visited the scene, conducted an inspection, and registered a case. Investigations are ongoing.
