BEML Expects to Roll Out First Bullet Train Car Body by August, B28 Service Planned for 2027

BEML, a public sector undertaking involved in manufacturing India's first bullet train, is expected to roll out the first car body by August, according to company officials. The indigenously developed high-speed train is being manufactured at BEML's Aditya plant in Bengaluru, which was inaugurated by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on April 25, 2026.

In a statement, Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML, said the company aims to unveil the first trainset early next year. "We expected that the first car body will be out by August, the car body shell, and we are trying to get the first train at the beginning of the next year, next calendar year," he said. The B28 high-speed rail services are planned to commence in 2027, marking a significant milestone in India's railway modernisation efforts.

The project is part of India's broader initiative to introduce high-speed rail connectivity, with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor being the primary focus. BEML's role in manufacturing the train sets underscores the government's push for indigenous production under the 'Make in India' programme. The company has previously supplied metro coaches and other rail equipment to Indian Railways.
