Assam Floods: No New Deaths in 24 Hours, Over 4.45 Lakh Still Affected
The flood situation in Assam saw a marginal improvement on Monday, with no fresh fatalities reported in the past 24 hours. However, over 4.45 lakh people remain affected across six districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The affected population has declined from more than 5.24 lakh on Sunday, as waters recede in some areas. The death toll from this year's floods remains at 68, with no new deaths reported.
Charaideo district is the worst-hit, with 1,88,404 people affected, followed by Sivasagar (1,44,461) and Jorhat (74,458). Other affected districts include Golaghat, Nagaon, and Kamrup (Metropolitan).
The ASDMA reported that 90 relief camps are operational, providing shelter to 28,695 displaced individuals. Additionally, 94 relief distribution centres are functioning to supply essential items.
The Dhansiri (S) river is flowing above the danger level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district, posing a continued threat to nearby areas.
Multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and civil defence personnel, are engaged in rescue and relief operations. A total of 67 boats have been deployed in affected regions to assist stranded people.
The floods have submerged 37,139.52 hectares of crop area and washed away 26,679 animals, impacting agriculture and livelihoods. Damage to houses, roads, and other infrastructure has been reported from various parts of the affected districts.
