Assam Floods: Army Rescues 150 Civilians Under Operation JAL RAHAT III
In response to urgent requests from the Assam government, the Indian Army has launched Operation JAL RAHAT III to assist civil authorities in flood relief and rescue operations across the affected districts of Sivasagar, Jorhat and Charaideo.
According to the Army, three dedicated flood relief columns, supported by Engineer Task Forces, have been mobilised to undertake rescue, evacuation and humanitarian assistance in coordination with the state administration.
In Sivasagar district, Army teams operating from Gargaon College are conducting rescue operations in close coordination with local civil authorities in the affected areas.
In Jorhat, a flood relief column has been positioned at Mariani and remains on standby for immediate deployment based on the district administration's requirements. An additional reserve column has also been kept ready for rapid response.
In Charaideo district, Army personnel operating from Sonari, reinforced by an Engineer Task Force and a Quick Reaction Team, have rescued 150 civilians—including 73 men, 47 women and 30 children—from inundated areas and moved them to safer locations.
The Army stated it is working closely with the Assam state administration, National Disaster Response Force, and local authorities to ensure timely assistance to affected communities. Rescue operations are ongoing, with additional resources available for deployment if needed.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting people during natural calamities and said it will continue extending all possible assistance to ease the hardships faced by the flood-affected population. Assam, which experiences severe floods annually during the monsoon season, has seen several rivers overflowing due to heavy rainfall, affecting thousands of people across multiple districts.
