Assam Floods: 11 Dead, Over 3 Lakh Affected as Waters Slowly Recede

GUWAHATI — The flood situation in Assam has shown signs of improvement, but the death toll has risen to 11 following a fatality in Charaideo district on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that 3.13 lakh people remain affected across 11 districts, a decline from 3.63 lakh across 16 districts the previous day.

The worst-hit districts continue to be Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat. A spokesperson confirmed that one person died due to floods in Charaideo. Authorities have set up 52 relief camps, currently sheltering 12,720 people, while rescue teams have evacuated 9,160 stranded individuals using boats.

Urban flooding was reported in six areas of Guwahati: Satgaon, Sawkuchi, Notboma, Boragaon, Maligaon, and Chandmari. Additionally, landslides occurred in five Guwahati localities on Monday evening. Several major rivers remain above the danger mark, including the Brahmaputra at Neamatighat, the Buridihing at Khowang, the Dikhou at Sivasagar, the Disang at Nganglamuraghat, and the Dhansiri at Golaghat and Numaligarh.

The flood situation in Assam has persisted for less than a month, affecting lakhs of people and causing damage to property and infrastructure. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing as authorities monitor the situation closely.
