Assam Flood Toll Rises to 75 as Over 3.3 Lakh Remain Affected Across Seven Districts
Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam continues to remain severe, with seven more deaths reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll this season to 75. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), all the latest fatalities occurred in the Nazira revenue circle of Sivasagar district.
The number of people affected by the deluge has slightly declined to 3,32,639 across seven districts: Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, and Kamrup Metropolitan. This is a decrease from Monday when 4.45 lakh people were impacted across six districts. A total of 21 revenue circles and 622 villages remain submerged.
Charaideo district is the worst affected, with 1,42,756 people displaced, followed by Sivasagar (97,074) and Jorhat (57,371). The ASDMA has reported that 81 relief camps are operational, sheltering 32,477 people, and 34 relief distribution centres are functioning to provide essential supplies.
Multiple agencies, including the Army, Air Force, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and civil volunteers, are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The Dhansiri (South) river is flowing above the danger level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district, raising concerns of further flooding.
The floods have also caused extensive damage to agriculture, with 45,341.98 hectares of crop area submerged. Officials are continuing to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected communities.
