Assam Flood Crisis Deepens: Death Toll Reaches 100, Over 1.37 Lakh Affected
The flood situation in Assam remained critical on Monday, August 11, 2026, with the death toll rising to 100 after two more fatalities were reported, according to an official bulletin. Nearly 1.4 lakh people continue to suffer in seven districts as several rivers flow above the danger mark, posing a fresh threat to new areas.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that two persons lost their lives in the past 24 hours in Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts. These deaths take the total number of flood-related fatalities this year to 100.
Currently, 456 villages are inundated, and agricultural land spanning 11,933.46 hectares has been damaged across the state. The floods have affected more than 1,37,500 people in Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon, and Sivasagar districts.
Golaghat remains the worst-hit district, with nearly 70,000 people affected, followed by Sivasagar with close to 40,000 people and Jorhat with over 16,000 people reeling under the floodwaters.
An ASDMA official said that the Dhansiri river at Golaghat and Numaligarh, and the Kushiyara river at Sribhumi, are flowing above the danger level. “Due to a steady rise in the water level of Dhansiri in Golaghat district, people have been advised to stay away from the river,” the official added.
The administration has been operating 125 relief camps and relief distribution centres in six districts, providing shelter and care to 49,061 people at present. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant.
