Armed Men Kill Farmer While He Worked in Manipur Paddy Field
A 53-year-old man was shot dead by armed individuals while working in a paddy field in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Saturday evening, officials said. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. in Govajang village.
The deceased, identified as Haolal Singsit, died on the spot. His wife, Nemneikim Singsit, who was present at the time, escaped unharmed. Villagers reported hearing approximately 20 rounds of gunfire.
Security forces arrived at the scene and recovered the body. An investigation is underway. No group has claimed responsibility, and no arrests have been made so far.
The district of Kangpokpi has experienced periodic tensions in the past, though the motive for this attack remains unclear. Authorities have urged calm and assured the public that efforts are being made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
