Apollo Hospitals in Tiruchi launches neuro navigation system and stroke command centre

Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Tiruchi has introduced a state-of-the-art neuro navigation system and a stroke command centre, aiming to enhance precision in neurosurgery and stroke care. The facilities were announced at a press conference on Thursday, led by a team of doctors including interventional neurologist S. Fazal Ilahi and consultant neurosurgeons S. Syed Ali, Mayilan Chinnappan, and S. Senthil Kumar.

Dr. Fazal explained that the neuro navigation system is an image-guided surgery technology that provides highly accurate guidance during brain and spine surgeries. By minimising damage to healthy brain tissue, the system leads to faster recovery and improved outcomes for patients. To illustrate its effectiveness, a young patient from Thanjavur who had undergone a successful procedure using the new system was introduced to the media, though his identity was not disclosed.

The stroke command centre is equipped with CT perfusion technology, which allows precise assessment of blood flow to the brain in acute stroke patients. The centre will coordinate with at least 15 nursing homes in the delta region to improve time-critical stroke management, ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate care.

The new facilities were inaugurated by V. Jayaraman, unit head and associate vice-president of Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Tiruchi. Additionally, an exclusive neuro intensive care unit was launched at the hospital on the same day.

These advancements represent a significant step in healthcare infrastructure for the region, offering cutting-edge technology for complex neurological conditions. The hospital aims to provide comprehensive care, from diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation, leveraging these new tools.
