AP Power Discom Rooftop Solar Connections Surge Eightfold in One Year

The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APCPDCL) has achieved a significant milestone in renewable energy deployment. According to its Chairman and Managing Director, P. Pullareddy, the utility has installed and synchronised 50,114 rooftop solar connections with a total capacity of 180 megawatts (MW) under the Government of India's PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

This marks an eightfold increase from the 6,489 rooftop solar units installed as of April 2024. Over the past year, the discom added 43,625 connections, bringing the total to 50,114.

Mr. Pullareddy attributed the rapid growth to daily review meetings between officials and empanelled vendors, which helped resolve issues promptly and ensured smooth installations and faster execution. He appreciated Director (Projects) T.V.S.N. Murthy and other senior officials for their efforts.

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, launched by the central government, aims to provide free electricity to households through rooftop solar installations. APCPDCL's expansion under this scheme contributes to the state's renewable energy goals while enabling consumers to reduce their electricity bills through clean energy.

The discom remains committed to further expanding rooftop solar capacity, aligning with broader national objectives for sustainable energy transition.
