A.P. High Court JJC Seeks Detailed Report on Sexual Assault of Minor Girls in Krishna District
The Juvenile Justice Committee (JJC) of the Andhra Pradesh High Court has sought a comprehensive report from the police and child welfare authorities regarding the alleged sexual abuse of two minor girls in Krishna district. The committee's action follows a report published in The Hindu on August 10, 2026, which detailed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the incident.
The JJC, in its directive issued on Monday (August 24, 2026), instructed the police, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Juvenile Welfare officials, and the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department to submit a detailed report by Tuesday (August 25, 2026). The committee has specifically requested information on the registered case, the condition of the victims, the status of the investigation, and the details of the arrests made.
Responding to the committee's query, Krishna district Superintendent of Police Ch. Vidyasagar Naidu informed the JJC that the Pedana police initially registered a missing person case. The case was later transferred to the Bandar Taluka station on August 9, where it was re-categorised under kidnapping charges, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the SP, the arrests were made based on a complaint filed by the parents of one of the victims. The accused, identified as M. Vamshi Kiran, an auto-rickshaw driver, and his friend K. Siddhu, allegedly took the two girls to Rudravaram village in an auto-rickshaw and sexually abused them. The police have seized the vehicle and the mobile phones of the accused as part of the investigation.
The JJC has directed the concerned officers to explain the status of the case in detail and submit all necessary documentation. An official familiar with the proceedings said the committee is closely monitoring the case to ensure that the legal process is followed with due diligence and that the victims receive appropriate care and protection.
Child rights activists have often highlighted the need for swift action and sensitivity in cases involving minor victims. The POCSO Act, enacted in 2012, provides a robust legal framework for the prosecution of offenders and the protection of children from sexual abuse. The Act mandates child-friendly procedures and strict timelines for investigation and trial.
