Andhra Pradesh Child Rights Commission to Launch Statewide Rescue Drive for Child Labourers
The Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) has announced plans for a coordinated special operation to rescue child labourers, identify missing children, and reunite them with their families. The operation will involve the Child Helpline-1098, police, railway police, and the Women and Child Welfare Department, among other agencies.
APSCPCR Chairman Vetukuri A.V.S.S.N. Raju made the announcement following a review meeting with District Collector Himanshu Shukla and other officials at the Collectorate on Wednesday. During his two-day visit, Mr. Raju inspected children's homes, Anganwadi centres, and social welfare residential hostels in the district.
“There is no compromise in protecting child rights,” Mr. Raju stated. He urged the public to immediately report any instances of harassment, exploitation, child labour, child marriage, or other child rights violations to the Child Helpline at 1098.
The Commission is advancing an action plan to ensure that every child grows up safe, educated, and healthy. Mr. Raju said an extensive study has been conducted with commission members and experts on issues such as the rise of bad habits among children, adverse effects of social media, and the trend of involving children in criminal activities. A report based on this study will soon be submitted to the government, along with a proposal for a robust action plan.
He also announced a special State-wide campaign to create awareness among children about psychological and social problems linked to social media influence. The government will ensure that funds allocated for child welfare are not misused.
Mr. Raju emphasised strict legal action against those who employ child labourers, facilitate child marriages, or involve children in criminal activities such as drug trafficking. He also said he will focus on implementing seat allocations for underprivileged students in both government and private schools to prevent deprivation of education.
