Andhra Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy Faints During I-Day Celebration in Tirupati
Tirupati, August 15: Brief tension marked the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Police Parade Grounds here on Saturday when district in-charge Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy fainted on stage while addressing the gathering. The Minister, who also holds the Endowments portfolio, had just hoisted the Tricolour and begun his speech when he suddenly appeared unwell.
As he began to lose balance, his security personnel swiftly moved in, preventing him from falling. The medical team stationed at the venue for the event immediately administered first aid. After a few minutes, the Minister's condition was declared stable, and he resumed his participation in the official programme, according to officials present.
The cause of the fainting episode was not officially disclosed. However, the district administration had made comprehensive medical arrangements in advance, including ambulances and a dedicated medical team, as per standard protocol for large public events. Their prompt response ensured that the Minister received timely care.
Mr. Reddy, a senior leader of the YSR Congress Party, represents the Nellore rural constituency in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He has served as the district in-charge minister for Tirupati for several years and has been associated with numerous infrastructure and social welfare initiatives in the region.
After his recovery, the Minister continued with the remaining ceremonial events, including the distribution of awards to meritorious students and the cultural performances by schoolchildren. The Independence Day function proceeded without further disruption, with District Collector and other officials overseeing the orderly conduct of the programme.
The 80th Independence Day was celebrated across Andhra Pradesh, with similar flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural programmes in all districts. In Vijayawada, the Chief Minister hoisted the national flag at the state-level main event, paying tribute to the freedom fighters and highlighting the government's achievements.
The incident at Tirupati drew attention to the need for robust emergency medical support at public gatherings. Health officials said the preparedness of the medical teams helped in managing the situation efficiently. No official statement on the Minister's health was issued beyond the confirmation that he is in good condition.
Later in the day, Mr. Reddy was seen attending the scheduled outreach programmes in the district as part of the Independence Day celebrations. His office confirmed that he has resumed his regular duties and is in good health.
