Amit Shah Inaugurates Digitally-Enabled Library, Urges Delhi to Link Libraries with Schools
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated the Jayaprakash Narayan Public Library, a digitally enabled public library developed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Udyan Marg in central Delhi.
At the event, attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Mr. Shah urged the Delhi government to interconnect libraries across the city and prepare a comprehensive plan to link them with schools, according to an official statement. He said a well-defined action plan should also be drawn up to encourage people to use libraries.
The Home Minister also urged the staff of the Jayaprakash Narayan Public Library to reach out to schools in the 10 Assembly constituencies around New Delhi and encourage students to visit the library.
According to the NDMC, the library has a collection of over 32,000 books and includes facilities for researchers, a multi-purpose auditorium, a reading area, a children’s section, a research centre, and an e-library with access to one crore online books. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the library. Monitors have also been installed to enable visitors to take notes and download study material.
