AMI places binding order for 9,000 NVIDIA Rubin GPUs for Hyderabad AI factory
AM Intelligence (AMI), an infrastructure platform promoted by the founders of Greenko, has placed a binding order for 9,000 NVIDIA Rubin GPUs. These will be deployed as Vera Rubin NVL72 systems at AMI's 30 MW facility in Hyderabad in the first quarter of 2027.
The company said the Hyderabad facility is expected to be among Asia's first frontier AI computing clusters using the Vera Rubin platform. This marks the first tranche of AMI's planned 1 GW of Compute-as-a-Service capacity spread across India, the United States, Finland, and Malaysia.
AMI has announced plans to bring 200 MW of capacity to market in the near term, with a capital expenditure of more than USD 8 billion. The broader vision includes developing 5 GW of powered AI data centres across India, the US, and Europe, integrating energy and next-generation computing to serve hyperscalers, sovereign AI initiatives, frontier labs, and AI-native companies.
The facilities are being designed for high-density AI computing and will use liquid cooling to manage the substantial power and heat generated by advanced AI chips. They will also be capable of accommodating successive generations of AI silicon, according to the company's press release.
Anil Chalamalasetty, Chairman of AMI, said, "For over two decades, we have focused on transforming electrons into value — addressing critical and emerging societal needs. Today, the electron-to-token opportunity allows us to take this capability further, converting power infrastructure into frontier AI compute at scale." He added, "Bringing the latest-generation NVIDIA Vera Rubin to India marks the next step in this journey and establishes AMI at the forefront of the emerging AI electron-to-token economy."
This order comes amid a global race to build advanced AI infrastructure. NVIDIA's Rubin platform is the successor to the Hopper and Blackwell architectures and is expected to deliver significant performance improvements for training and running large language models. India has been seeking to position itself as a hub for AI computing, with several private and public initiatives underway to build data centres and cloud capacity.
The Hyderabad facility is expected to provide compute capacity to a range of clients, including AI startups, research institutions, and enterprises. AMI's approach couples power infrastructure with compute, leveraging its background in energy to address one of the key constraints in AI data centres: reliable and abundant electricity.
The announcement did not specify how the GPUs will be financed or whether any government incentives are involved. The company's near-term capital expenditure of over USD 8 billion is a significant bet on the growth of AI services in India and other markets. Analysts note that the success of such large-scale facilities will depend on demand from global and domestic customers, as well as on the availability of power and cooling infrastructure.
