Alibaba Launches Qwen 3.8 Max, Claims It Rivals Leading AI Models
Chinese technology company Alibaba has released a preview version of its latest artificial intelligence model, Qwen 3.8 Max. The large language model (LLM) is said to be comparable to the most advanced AI systems currently available, with performance second only to Anthropic's Claude Fable 5, according to the company.
Developers can now access the preview through Alibaba's coding platforms, Qoder and QoderWork. The company described the model as one of the most powerful AI systems available today. Alibaba also announced that an open-weight version of Qwen 3.8 Max will be released in the near future.
The model has a parameter count of 2.4 trillion, though further technical specifications were not disclosed. The launch comes shortly after another Chinese AI firm, Kimi, introduced its K3 model, highlighting the intensifying competition in China's AI sector.
Alibaba also introduced several other AI products on Wednesday, including Qwen3-Omni, a multimodal system designed for immersive applications such as smart glasses and intelligent cockpits.
China's AI race has seen rapid developments, with multiple companies releasing advanced models in recent months. The competition is driven by both domestic demand and global ambitions, as firms seek to establish leadership in a field considered crucial for future technological innovation.
