After Anantnag Attack, J&K Police Chief Orders Intensified Operations and Intel-Led Crackdown

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Friday directed senior officers to intensify area domination and intelligence-led operations following a terrorist attack in Anantnag that killed a policeman two days earlier.

Chairing a security review meeting at the Police Control Room in Kashmir, the DGP assessed the prevailing security scenario and emerging challenges across the Union Territory. He passed fresh directives to top officers in the region.

A police spokesperson said DGP Prabhat ordered intensified area domination and night domination, particularly in vulnerable and urban areas, to deter anti-national elements and maintain a strong police presence.

He also called for strengthening the security grid around critical infrastructure and reinforcing intelligence collection and coordination among all security and intelligence agencies.

Reviewing the counter-terrorism framework, the DGP instructed officers to intensify intelligence-led operations to identify, track and neutralise residual terror networks.

“The importance of close coordination among all stakeholders to facilitate swift operational responses and effectively counter any attempt to disturb public order or undermine the security environment,” said DGP Prabhat.

Highlighting the critical role of reliable communication, the DGP underlined the need for uninterrupted telecommunication connectivity and resilient communication networks across all police formations.

He also directed officers to maintain continuous oversight of weather-related preparedness and heightened situational awareness across all formations.

Officers presented a comprehensive assessment of the security scenario, including the current operational environment, threat perception and preparedness of field formations.

The attack in Anantnag occurred when an unidentified terrorist shot a policeman from close range, killing him instantly. No group has claimed responsibility so far.
