Accused in minor's rape-murder shot in leg during escape attempt, police say
An accused in the abduction, sexual assault, and murder of a minor girl in Vadodara district sustained bullet injuries to his right leg on Tuesday night when he allegedly attempted to escape from police custody, authorities said.
The incident occurred as the accused was being transported from the Crime Branch outpost to the police station concerned. According to Vadodara District Superintendent of Police Sushil Agrawal, around 8 pm on Tuesday, the accused lunged at a police officer seated in the vehicle and attempted to seize his service revolver. In the ensuing scuffle, the officer's weapon discharged, striking the accused in the leg.
The accused is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. Police have registered an additional First Information Report (FIR) against him on charges of attacking police personnel.
The original case pertains to the June 15 abduction, sexual assault, and murder of a minor girl. The accused had been in custody prior to the escape attempt.
