ABVP Strike Shuts Hyderabad Schools Over Fee Hike Demands
Several schools in Hyderabad remained closed on Tuesday after the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) called for a bandh to protest rising fees in private institutions and demand a regulatory framework.
The strike, organised by the student body, aimed to press for immediate government intervention to regulate private school fee structures and curb arbitrary fee hikes that have placed a heavy financial burden on families.
In a statement, the ABVP said parents from various districts have expressed concerns over escalating educational costs and the lack of transparency in fee collection practices by private institutions. The group urged the state government to enact a comprehensive private school fee regulation act and set up an independent authority to monitor fee structures, review annual revisions, and ensure accountability.
Parents and activists have long demanded a fee regulatory mechanism in Telangana, citing instances of sudden fee hikes without proper justification. The ABVP bandh, which saw participation from several schools, is part of a broader movement to address these grievances.
The closure affected thousands of students and parents who relied on schools for daily classes. However, many institutions remained open, with attendance reported to be thin.
The ABVP has promised further action if the government does not respond to its demands. The state education department has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
