Abhishek Sharma sets T20I milestone: fastest to 100 sixes in 785 balls
India's Abhishek Sharma achieved a new milestone in Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket on Wednesday, becoming the fastest batter to hit 100 sixes in the format. The record was set during the first T20I between India and England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The left-handed opener reached the landmark in just 785 deliveries, surpassing the previous record held by West Indies' Evin Lewis, who had taken 789 balls to reach 100 sixes. New Zealand's Finn Allen is third on the list, having achieved the feat in 871 deliveries earlier this year.
Abhishek, who was opening the batting alongside Sanju Samson, struck two sixes in his innings to reach the milestone. His rapid accumulation of sixes has been a hallmark of his aggressive batting style since his T20I debut.
The 24-year-old from Punjab also broke the Indian record held by former T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who had reached 100 sixes in 1007 deliveries. Abhishek's achievement highlights his ability to score quickly at the top of the order.
At the time of writing, the match was in progress, with India batting first. Further details on the outcome of the match are awaited.
