70-Year-Old Man Arrested for Raping 16-Year-Old Granddaughter in Hathras
Police in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district arrested a 70-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly raping his 16-year-old granddaughter, who is two-and-a-half months pregnant, authorities said.
According to police, the teenager alleged that her grandfather sexually assaulted her repeatedly over a period of approximately three months, leading to the pregnancy. The accused has been identified as Nizamuddin.
The victim's mother is deceased, and she lives with her father and grandfather in the Sikandra Rao area. In her complaint, the teenager stated that her grandfather would assault her when her father left for work, leaving her alone at home.
The abuse came to light on Saturday when the girl complained of stomach pain and was taken to a doctor. A medical examination revealed she was pregnant. The doctor subsequently informed the family, and a police complaint was filed.
Circle Officer Amit Pathak said the teenager was sent to the district hospital for a detailed medical examination, which confirmed her pregnancy of two-and-a-half months. Nizamuddin was taken into custody on Saturday, Pathak added.
Police said a case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and an investigation is underway. The girl's statement has been recorded, and she has been provided with medical care.
