61-Year-Old Arrested for Rape of 10-Year-Old and Abuse of 4-Year-Old in Pune
A 61-year-old man has been arrested in Pune on charges of raping a 10-year-old girl and sexually abusing her four-year-old sister, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, a construction worker, was taken into custody after the mother of the two girls filed a complaint at a police station under the Pimpri Chinchwad police jurisdiction on Monday. According to the police, the man lived in the same locality as the victims' family.
An officer of Assistant Commissioner of Police rank has been assigned to investigate the case. The accused was produced before a court on Tuesday and has been remanded to police custody for seven days.
The complaint alleges that the accused raped the 10-year-old on at least two separate occasions between May and July. He is also accused of sexually abusing the four-year-old sister during the same period. The complaints state that the man forcibly took the girls to his house and sexually assaulted them.
Police have not provided further details to protect the identities of the minor victims. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are gathering additional evidence.
Under Indian law, sexual offenses against minors are punishable with severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty in the most extreme cases. The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, provides for strict punishment and special procedures for the trial of such cases.
The Pimpri Chinchwad police have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward. They have also assured that the victims will receive necessary support and counseling.
