6-Year-Old Sexually Assaulted by Toilet Attendant at Bengal School; Arrest Made
A six-year-old Class 1 student was sexually assaulted by the toilet attendant at his school in West Bengal's Paschim Medinipur district. The accused was arrested following a protest by parents outside the school.
The survivor's mother told reporters that her son informed her about the incident after returning home on Friday. He said the attendant subjected him to oral molestation inside the boys' restroom. The assault stopped only when the child's friends knocked on the door.
The mother alleged that the school principal attempted to suppress the matter, refusing to inform the police or allow her to file a complaint, citing potential damage to the school's reputation. She said other parents supported her, leading to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) and the subsequent arrest of the accused. The parents are demanding the removal of the principal and suspension of teachers who made inappropriate remarks.
Police officials confirmed the arrest and said they have seized CCTV footage for investigation. The police chief, Papiya Sultana, announced new safety measures: separate restrooms for older students, installation of cameras outside toilets, deployment of attendants to monitor entry and exit, and mandatory background checks for all staff.
The authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
