38 Buildings at Azam Khan's University Face Demolition for Lack of Approval

The Rampur Development Authority (RDA) on Wednesday issued a demolition order for 38 of the 40 buildings on the campus of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, stating they were constructed without obtaining the required permissions from the competent authority.

The university, run by the Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust, has been given 15 days to remove the unauthorised structures. If the institution fails to comply within this period, the administration will proceed with the demolition.

The order was issued by RDA vice-chairperson and Rampur District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi under Section 27 of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. Dwivedi stated that the decision followed a detailed hearing, examination of records, and a review of legal provisions.

The trust's chairperson is Azam Khan, a jailed former Uttar Pradesh minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader. The university is located in Rampur district.
