30 Additional CAPF Companies Deployed to Delhi Amid Protests
The Union Home Ministry has approved the deployment of 30 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the national capital following a request from Delhi Police for reinforcements to maintain law and order during ongoing protests by the Communist Party of India (CPI) and other political parties at Jantar Mantar and nearby areas.
According to official communication, Delhi Police sought additional forces in view of the law-and-order situation arising from the demonstrations and to strengthen security measures. “After examining the matter, the ministry decided to make available 30 additional CAPF companies to Delhi Police with immediate effect until July 27,” the communication stated.
The security personnel, all drawn from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), are being airlifted from West Bengal after the Home Ministry ordered their immediate deployment on Tuesday night. The additional deployment aims to ensure that protests remain peaceful and do not disrupt public order.
The protests, led by the CPI and several other political groups, have been ongoing at Jantar Mantar, a designated protest site in central Delhi. Demonstrators are raising concerns over various issues, including economic policies and social justice. As of now, the protests have been largely peaceful, but authorities have decided to increase security as a precautionary measure.
The deployment of additional CAPF companies is a standard procedure when law enforcement requires more manpower to manage large gatherings. The Home Ministry’s decision reflects an assessment that the current number of personnel is insufficient to handle the situation effectively. The ministry has not specified any particular threat, but the move underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining public safety.
Delhi Police have assured that the extra forces will be used to augment security at key locations and ensure that the protests do not escalate into violence or disrupt daily life in the capital. The reinforcement is expected to remain in place until July 27, after which the situation will be reassessed.
