10 States on Alert as Monsoon Revives with 'Intense' Rainfall

The Southwest Monsoon, after a prolonged lull, has shown signs of revival, bringing heavy rain warnings across more than 10 Indian states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'intense rain' warning valid until July 30 for Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and both eastern and western regions of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Coastal Odisha and West Bengal are expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall until Monday. On Sunday, Jagatsinghpur in Odisha recorded 330 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. The IMD also reported that a depression has formed in the north Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast, which is contributing to the intensified weather.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay cautious as the IMD continues to monitor the situation. The revival of the monsoon is expected to provide relief from the previous dry spell, but the heavy downpours may lead to flooding and disruptions in low-lying regions.
